The Directorate of Student Affairs, has presented a cheque of GHS 15,000 to support the treatment of Stephen Owusu, a second-year Nursing student at the Obuasi Campus who has been diagnosed with cancer.
The funds, provided by the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), KNUST, was handed over to Professor Lawrence Darkwa, Dean of the Obuasi Campus.
Professor Marian Asantewah Nkansah, Director of Student Affairs, explained that the donation followed an earlier appeal for assistance.
She said the funds would help Stephen and demonstrated the commitment of the student body.
“We are happy to announce to all that the process has ended and the cheque has been issued. The cheque of GHS 15,000 shows the commitment that has been made towards Stephen’s treatment.”
Presenting the cheque to Professor Lawrence Darkwa, she thanked students for their quick response.
“This is the perfect occasion to present this cheque to the Dean of Obuasi Campus to coordinate the handing over. We thank the students once again for rising to the occasion.”
Professor Darkwa received the cheque on behalf of Stephen.
“Calls like this do not benefit you directly, but they are calls to humanity. Thank you very much. I will ensure the cheque gets to its intended destination on behalf of Stephen and his family.”
He added that the contribution reflected the sense of community among students.
“We are happy that you have come together to help your fellow student. This shows that student leadership continues to stand by colleagues in times of need.”
For now, the cheque of GHS 15,000 represents the first phase of financial support as Stephen Owusu begins his medical care.
